Abstract
Earlier work by the author in identifying subsurface layered media parameters involved the estimating of amplitude and delay parameters for acoustic wave propagation, using a time-domain formulation. In this paper the effects of frequency dependent attenuation are incorporated in a frequency-domain formulation. The problem considered is one of nonlinear parameter estimation and iterative algorithms for its solution must be employed. Newton-Raphson method is proposed to perform this task.
