Abstract
Given the developments taking place in software engineering, Logica began in 1982 to look for ways in which they could introduce this technology systematically. This led to the setting up of the Sesame programme in mid-1983. The objective of this programme is simple: to improve Logica´s effectiveness in developing software. Initially, Sesame was seen as a 2-year initiative; it has since been extended indefinitely. From its inception, Sesame has undertaken an increasing range of activities, including the production of reports, an education and training programme, support and consultancy, and metrics data collection. Most recently, and perhaps most importantly, it has evolved a software methods policy and a set of related support kits
