A newly designed UHF solid-state television transmitter

This brand new television transmitter (TV TX) is a fully transistorized TV transmitter using a 6 kW UHF transistor power amplifier (V6KDU TR PA) composed of eight 800 W transistor power amplifier modules and allows all solid-state UHF TV transmitters with high output powers to be achieved. This TV transmitter achieves a high reliability and maintainability by using a complete plug-in type connection between the transistor power amplifier (TR PA) modules (V800 DU TR PA), power supply modules (180A28VPS) and combiner. The elimination of the conventional heat sink from the TR PA modules leads to a light weight and high cooling efficiency by a newly developed system called `jet air cooling´. This paper describes the outline and reliability of this recently developed TV transmitter, in particular, UHF 30 kW TV transmitter, consisting of 2 sets of complete 15 kW transmitters in parallel operation with exciter changeover facilities, while explaining new technologies applied in this TV transmitter
