Abstract :
A coupled, non-linear analysis of the motions and tendon loads of a Tension Leg Platform for 1600 ft. water depths has been conducted. A comparison of the results with the results of linear, uncoupled analysis suggest that dynamic tendon loads are highly sensitive to non linearities and/or coupling effects. Surge motions of the platform, on the other hand, appear to be linear up to and including the maximum design storm conditions for the case studied. Linear tendon tension predictions appear to be conservative for wave periods greater than about 8 seconds.
