Abstract :
The author presents an overview of previous microwave antenna remoting experiments and introduces the basic characteristics of semiconductor and rare-earth-doped optical amplifiers. Particular attention is given to the system parameters of a traveling-wave semiconductor optical amplifier and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. Optical amplifier applications for RF and microwave antenna remoting are proposed.<>
