Abstract :
The NCC approached the IEE concerning the possibility of a collaborative venture to develop a National Certificate Course in software engineering. A nine week course was envisaged aimed at both chartered and technician engineers. A working party was formed consisting of representatives from the IEE, NCC, BCS, Alvey, DTI, MSC, MOD, industry and academia and the details of the certificate with respect to the syllabus, assessment, administration and accreditation were determined. The course is primarily designed for post-graduate updating although non-graduates with sufficient length and quality of experience may be admitted. In order to qualify for the award a satisfactory standard must be achieved: during continual assessment; by the project; and at the final oral and written examinations
