Abstract :
The performance of the Band III (174-225 MHz) trunked mobile radio system is dependent on the ability of the Radio Unit (RU) to recognise and access the trunking control channel. The document MPT1343 defines the protocols to be used for hunting and relinquishing control channels. Some theoretical analysis of the behaviour of the algorithm using different sets of parameters has been performed but a series of field trials performed by GEC Research for the Department of Trade and Industry, Radiocommunications Division, has provided the first practical results. This paper describes the results of the field trials and contrasts them with the previously published theoretical results
