Abstract
The author provides a comparison of practices in regard to demand prediction in the CEGB (England and Wales), EDF (France) and ENEL (Italy), all three utilities being responsible for the planning and operation of the public generation and transmission facilities in the respective countries. The author discusses: the systems, including reserve margins, interconnection, private generation, demand shaping and control; purpose, time spans and prediction frequency; demand prediction methodology; influence of weather conditions; and future developments. The information is presented in tabular form
