Abstract
An overview of the state of the art in the production and use of both high energy electron and ion beams is presented. After an introduction to the general principles of pulsed power techniques and systems, the various methods in use for producing pulsed relativistic electron and ion beams are briefly reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the principles of less familiar systems such as high voltage electron diodes and magnetically confined and focussed ion diodes. An abbreviated discourse on uses and potential future applications of these very high power beams (including Bremsstrahlung X-rays) is presented
