Abstract
Since 1971 the Marine Option Program has been the principal source for undergraduates from all disciplines in the University of Hawaii to discover and develop their marine interests and talents. The program complements the work of other units, promotes learning by first-hand experience and grants a certificate to students who complete a core of marine-related courses and a practical marine project. By promoting and coordinating opportunities on campus, with governmental agencies, and in the private sector, MOP prepares students for relevant employment opportunities or further specialized training. In addition, the program sponsors special activities aimed at bringing together all who share an interest in and love for the sea.
