We civilized citizens are accustomed to hot tap water, comfortable temperature in rooms and cooled food at home. These things are part of our everyday life and organic components of our lifestyle. We do not recognize this modern luxury really until they are lost. The issue with our current lifestyle is the growth in consumption which comes with increasing energy prices and growing environmental pollution. Therefore the required usage of more efficient low energy consumption equipment is not enough. There is a need for higher level review of our everyday activities in order to change them. To complete that change more data is needed to be collected, retrieved and stored. The solution for this job can be e.g. the Smart monitoring equipment. This paper gives an overview of the new kind of load management systems. Additionally their field of application, different functions will be discussed. Smart metering is a clever step to a sustainable future.
