Abstract
The application of pattern recognition techniques to ESM data processing has been studied, with particular reference to pulse-by-pulse analysis using intra-pulse parameters alone. Many current pulse deinterleaving methods are based on batch processing using time-of-arrival-difference (TOAD) analysis, which is both computationally expensive (especially in highly dense environments) and unreliable in certain scenarios (for example in the presence of agile emitters). The use of pattern recognition techniques has been suggested as an alternative approach to the deinterleaving of pulse data which would allow continuous (rather than batch) analysis on a pulse-by-pulse basis based on intra-pulse parameters alone (replacing TOAD analysis). This paper presents the conclusions of this study, and makes some recommendations for future work
