Abstract
This paper describes a simulation model which predicts the SAR image of the ocean surface for an arbitrary set of conditions. This model is used to investigate the properties of the SAR image as a function of environmental conditions and radar system parameters. Specifically, the image signal variance and the shape of the signal distribution function are computed for various wind speeds, assuming a locally wind-generated sea.
