Abstract :
Most communication companies in developing countries use diesel generators in addition to grid supply to power their base stations because the grid power supply is unreliable. Remote monitoring of these sites can reduce the amount of time spent on routine site visits especially for dieselrefills. This paper presents a design and implementation of a remote diesel-level monitoring system using wireless sensor network. A prototype of the system was developed and implemented using XB-24ZB radio units and an ultrasonic sensor. The diesel level was sensed and transmitted wirelessly to a remote base station for further processing and analysis. The novelty of the work lies in the development of a system that enables more efficient monitoring of diesel generators of different sizes at remote locations using Wireless Sensor Network. The prototype system can upgraded where necessary to include additional sensors for monitoring other factors in the base station environment.
