Abstract :
The author describes an electronic data interchange (EDI) software package which is based on CCITT X.400 protocols and is portable across a wide range of computer system types. The package pays particular attention to the need for flexible design to support the wide variety of X.400-based EDI networks planned for the next few years. Requirements for a high-level EDI application program interface (API) which is independent of the underlying protocols in order to assist migration of EDI application programs from one network to another are also considered
