Abstract
Addresses some of the considerations which are likely to influence the design of future broadcast networks in the UK. Such networks may use terrestrial radio links, optical fibre links, satellite links or a combination of these. The thoughts presented are those of the author and are not necessarily views held by the Independent Broadcasting Authority by whom the author is employed. Starting from a brief description of the existing IBA television network, possibilities for the future are explored. A view on the relative benefits of optical fibre and/or satellite transmission is expressed taking into account both technical and cost factors. The reader is left to draw his own conclusions on the likely outcome
