Abstract :
A performance analysis of discrete time feedforward AGC circuits is presented. Two different types of amplitude estimation were considered which lead to different performance results: MAD estimators are very simple to implement, but generate an infinite number of undesirable harmonics which cause harmonic and aliasing distortion; RMS detectors, involving a square operation, generate only one undesirable component but with a large amplitude which requires a great deal of filtering. Computer simulations are presented which allow the design of these circuits in a straightforward manner
