Abstract
The work presented arose from research into the production of microcomputer software to derive patterns from which industrial saws cut large stock sheets of wood into rectangular panels in some optimal fashion. It is demonstrated that even in sophisticated algorithmic solutions some applied intelligence relating to the parameters has an effect on the results
