Abstract :
A solution is presented for electromagnetic scattering from an infinitely long, perfectly conducting circular cylinder coated with an inhomogeneous dielectric layer. The incident field is a plane wave with the E field parallel to the cylinder axis. The solution is obtained by representing the fields in the dielectric and exterior regions as infinite series. Enforcing boundary conditions that E/sub z/ and H/sub phi / be continuous at the dielectric/air interface and that E/sub z/ go to zero at the surface of the perfect conductor results in an infinite set of simultaneous equations. After truncation, computational solution is achieved. Investigation of the resulting far scattered field reveals that the dielectric coating can be used to alter the far-field pattern and the radar cross section significantly.<>
