Abstract
The field radiated by an aperture on a coated perfectly conducting smooth convex surface is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The aperture is modeled by a magnetic dipole. Starting from the canonical problem of dipole radiation in the presence of a coated circular cylinder, an asymptotic ray solution is developed and extended to the case of a coated smooth convex surface. In the experimental part of the study, a longitudinal X-band slot (8-10 GHz) was set on the conducting surface of the cylinder. The validity of the dipole model was checked by comparing the results for the radiation and the coupling between apertures at high frequencies.<>
