Abstract :
The characteristics of the scattering field from a lossy medium coated perfectly conducting sphere are studied analytically. Singularities of the scattering field are only poles. There are no branch point contributions to transient electromagnetic scattering responses. The natural frequencies of the scatterer are numerically evaluated. It can be seen that the poles shift regularly under variations of conductivity of the coating medium sigma /sub 1/. Large sigma /sub 1/ introduces extra poles on the imaginary axis of the complex frequency plane. Branch points of square root epsilon do not give rise to extra poles.<>
