Abstract :
It is shown that the optimal flow control in an integrated voice/data local area network (LAN) combines control data average arrival rate with the time assignment speech interpolation (TASI) technique. The control principle is a window type mechanism (bang-bang control). In the analysis of the TASI technique, a two-dimensional Markov chain with the state transition diagram in general material is converted to a birth-death link. Numerical results are given which are of great value to integrated services digital network (ISDN) flow control design
