Abstract :
Recently Philips Research Laboratories (PRL) have been studying broadband mixing techniques utilising FETs for application in ESM (Electronic Surveillance Measures) systems. One of the circuits being studied is a 6-18 GHz FET distributed mixer with a 2-6 GHz IF output. Using a distributed circuit provides advantages of insensitivity to device characteristics, wideband operation and MMIC process compatibility. The mixer, which is to be fabricated as an MMIC, was designed in collaboration with MEL (A member of the Philips group). Practical results are not yet available and therefore the authors concentrate on circuit design philosophy and circuit simulation using commercially available large signal analysis software
