Abstract :
We propose a widely-variable optical attenuator for large-core multimode fibers (MMFs), using a free-space optics composed of lenses, a right-angle prism, a linearly graded density filter, and an electrostatically driven MEMS micromirror. The VOA design has an advantage in fast response, due to the small MEMS mirror located at the focal point of the focus lens.
