Abstract
Propagation studies within buildings were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of polarisation diversity and antenna directivity for combating cochannel interference. Dipole antennas and a 15 dB gain Yagi antenna were used as transmitting antennas in the experiments. By positioning the dipole antenna horizontally and aiming the null of the radiation pattern towards the cochannel cell, or by using a directional antenna generally resulted in a reduction in the level of cochannel interference. The gain in cochannel interference protection is around 3 to 5 dB
