Abstract :
In recent past EMI/EMC issues have greatly increased in complexity due to the proliferation of electronics in all walks of life. As a result, it is no longer possible to rely exclusively on traditional techniques and expect cost-effective and accurate solutions. The application of CEM to EMI/EMC engineering/modelling is an emerging area of research and the subject of EMI modelling is beginning to appear frequently in the technical literature. Obtaining an appropriate method for modelling is a challenging exercise for the engineer because the CEM realm is flooded with techniques such as FDTD, FEM, MoM, TLM, FVTD, etc. Moreover, these methods are further refined frequently and hybrid methods were developed as they were applied to real world problems. The most painful act is that no single modelling technique will be the most effective and accurate for every possible problem. So the EMI/EMC modeller is compelled to follow a "right technique for the right job" approach. All popular computational EMI modelling techniques are briefly reviewed in this paper. A comparative study has been done and the limitations, capability and usability of each technique are outlined.
