Abstract
The dominant fault in overhead power line systems is the flashover of insulators irrespective of voltage level. The authors examine the result of nearly ten years of extensive research and development work into an online insulator pollution monitoring system. Such a technique is described which depends upon the repetition of leakage current bursts to a certain set triggering value. The authors present the foreseen applications and advantages of this technique
