Abstract
A modified trellis extracted synchronisation technique (TEST) is described in which the functions of demodulation, error control decoding and synchronisation are combined. The procedure is applied to the (9,4,4) array code and (8,4,4) generalised array code, using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadriphase shift keying (QPSK) modulation schemes, and is shown to have performances better than perfectly synchronised (coherent) systems.
