Abstract
Because of space charge limitations high energy particle beam facilities comprise a series of coupled machines where particles are successively accelerated to higher energies. Kicker magnets are the fast beam switching devices which permit high efficiency transfer of these particle beams from one circular accelerator to the next. The author describes the switching processes of kicker magnets. The pulse durations for kicker excitations do not exceed the beam circulation time in the synchrotron which is in the range 600-2100 ns
