Abstract
A new frame prediction technique is presented which uses the effective representation of moving areas in a frame difference (FD) image. Assuming that the luminance in moving areas of the FD image is distributed like a ridge, (valley), these areas are represented by the ridge- (valley-) line and the parameters approximating its shape. The proposed method can reduce some degradations of perceptually important parts in existing methods. From the experimental results on head and shoulder images, it is found that the prediction image of the proposed method is subjectively closer to original image than that of the block matching algorithm (BMA)
