Abstract :
In a gas insulated substation (GIS), transient electric fields are emitted during switching operations. Measurements are required to characterize the electromagnetic interference (EMI) present in a GIS and to control the emission level below the susceptibility of the sophisticated control equipment associated with the modern GIS. A 245 kV GIS model has been used in the present study to simulate the gas insulated switchyard and the transient E-field signal is captured both in time and frequency scale using a high bandwidth CRO and a spectrum analyzer respectively. E-field measurements is carried out in the frequency range of 25 MHz to 250 MHz. The validation of the scale down measurement is confirmed by comparing the frequency content of the time varying transient E-field signal with spectrum analyzer records at different scanning frequencies.
