Abstract :
The limitations of the method of residues in detecting the grossly erroneous measurements are outlined. An entirely different approach is taken to obtain a residue-like quantity for network parameters. This residue-like quantity, net parameter deviation after sensitivity correction (NPDSC), is related to measurement errors through diagonal matrices. This is unlike the case in the conventional residue method where the corresponding relation is given by a non-diagonal matrix. The masking effect is thus eliminated. Another important feature of the method is that it can test a given arbitrary set of measurements for its validity. Critical measurements can also be tested successfully. The method is applied to a six bus power system example and its effectiveness indicated
