Abstract
Consideration is given to two recently proposed constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detectors, namely, the variably trimmed mean (VTM) detector and the adaptive order statistic (AOS) detector. A comparison is made of the performance characteristics of these two detectors and the OS (order statistic) detector in exponential and Rayleigh distributed clutter. It is shown that properly designed AOS and VTM detectors can outperform the OS detector, and that the AOS detector performance is generally superior to that of the VTM detector
