    In order to forecast the motion response of deepwater semi-submersible platform, frequency domain linear analysis method and time domain non- linear analysis method are currently widely used. Based on the introduction of the two methods, the difference analysis of the frequency domain method and the time domain method is carried out gradually. A deepwater semi-submersible platform´s motion response example is given to clarify summarize the similarities, differences and numerical discipline forecasted by the two methods separately. The research provides the reference for forecasting the motion response of the platform in kind.
