Abstract :
This paper presents a noise reduction electronic headboard system. Annoying noise disturbances can disrupt sleep leading to insomnia and its consequences, and in many cases lead to hearing loss. We propose to reduce environmental noises and more interestingly snore noise by using a low cost active noise control (ANC) system. The proposed system is designed to be unobtrusive and can be installed in bedrooms or on existing traditional headboards. A digital signal processor was used to run the algorithms for real-time noise cancellation. Experiments were performed on a modified twin-size bed fitted with the electronic headboard. Results from these experiments show that the system is effective in canceling both repetitive noises like engine noise, and complex noises like snore noise creating a reasonably large quiet zone.
