Abstract :
Gain enhancement for a uni-directional pattern is inconsistent with the demand to use a chip-sized antenna in order to obtain an integrated RF unit design of the cellular handset. To overcome this difficulty, a gain enhancement technique is proposed. For the RF integrated circuit, we may use a chip-sized antenna and a parasitic patch element inside or outside handset case, to obtain a uni-directional pattern. This paper presents an experimental study of the gain enhancement (or radiation pattern control) of a small antenna using a proximity coupled parasitic patch.
