Abstract :
Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is a power electronic based device that has capability of controlling the power flow through the line by injecting appropriate reactive power to power system. This paper investigates the effect of STATCOM on inter-area power system stability. The STATCOM is modeled as the variable susceptance and is incorporated into the model of power system. The simulation results are tested on the Kundur´s inter-area power system.
