Abstract :
SQUIDs have a promising future for non-contact NDE. Initial impracticality due to poor spatial resolution has been overcome and SQUIDs have been demonstrated detecting real defects. While present systems have attractive capabilities they are expensive to buy and operate, and far too cumbersome for wide application. However, it seems certain that similar performance will be provided by HTS systems within a few years, without the cost and impracticality with which present users have to contend
