Abstract
A robust computer-based numerical technique for the modeling and simulation of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) is introduced. The proposed technique uses a nonlinear analytical model that is capable of faithfully reproducing all involved signals via using an iterative numerical scheme for estimating the model parameters such that simulation results match their corresponding experimental data. The proposed modeling technique can produce accurate results for different operating conditions as local linearization is avoided. In addition, it is demonstrated that the model structure has little impact on the mathematical complexity of the parameters´ fitting algorithm which suggests the possibility of applying the proposed technique to different systems with both linear and nonlinear dynamics. An experimental apparatus with a MATLAB interface is used to exemplify the real-time application of the suggested technique where the estimated PMSM parameters are used to construct a PID controller. Finally, practicality of the proposed technique is addressed and its extensibility to other similar problems in different fields is also discussed.
