University/industry cooperation in transmission and distribution research

There are at present about 18 departments in UK universities with some activity in power engineering of which a dozen or so have expertize in one or more aspects of research relevant to transmission and distribution plant and systems. The main concerns for the future are that there is adequate funding to maintain an effective research capability within the university system and that this capability is used to address those research issues which will be critical to the medium and long-term development of the electricity supply industry in the UK
