Abstract
The authors present a computer-aided control-system design environment for use with single-loop and single-input single-output (SISO) linear plants to form a stable closed-loop feedback system that would satisfy a set of user-defined performance measures in a near-optimum fashion. The technique of the CAD (computer-aided design) system is based on the factorization approach. The authors present an example problem to demonstrate the CAD environment, and compare the results with those of another technique previously reported in the literature. A primary disadvantage of the proposed technique is that controllers with high orders are designed; this is the inherent feature of the factorization approach, but it is believed that the present technique results in lower-order controllers than if other factorization algorithms were used
