Abstract :
The concept for a large diameter inflatable pipe for open ocean upwelling and OTEC applications is developed. The inflatable pipe offers the advantages of ease of installation and non-catastrophic buckling. Pipe geometry and inflation-induced loads are analyzed, and a preliminary bending analysis is performed. Model tests are compared with the analysis, substantiating the feasibility of the concept.
