  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Optical duobinary coding is an attractive way to improve the dispersion tolerance in high-speed systems. The introduction of a three-level electrical signal causes distortion in saturated electrical amplifiers leading to excessive penalties at long word lengths. Two solutions have been proposed to avoid the need for a three level signal, but they do not have the same tolerance against dispersion. In this paper we present a new design avoiding the electrical three-level signal without reducing the dispersion tolerance.
