Abstract
During VDEs the JET plasma occasionally shows asymmetries leading to net radial forces acting on the vacuum vessel and causing its sideways displacement. Eddy currents and halo currents flowing in the vessel balance the asymmetric destabilising force acting on the plasma. The vessel sideways displacement is restrained mechanically and also by magnetic damping
