Abstract :
Guaranteed QoS with seamless secure mobility is strongly required in near future Internet with heterogeneous wireless access networks. In order to provide QoS-guaranteed realtime services, the packet delivery should be continued with limited packet delay, jitter and packet loss. Through the extensive performance evaluations of PFMIPv6 we found that the TCP throughput may drastically reduce due to the out-of-order packet delivery. In this paper, we propose an optimized predictive PFMIPv6 handover scheme with QoS-negotiation based on MIH (Media Independent Handover). When a target access point is selected, the timely pre-registration is provided based on MIH. We compared the performances of legacy PFMIPv6 and the proposed optimized PFMIPv6 in terms of TCP throughput. Using the optimized packet delivery between Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) and new Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) with pre-registration the proposed optimized PFMIPv6 achieved larger TCP throughput than the legacy PFMIPv6.
