Abstract :
The State of Hawaii is located near the center of rich manganese nodule deposits containing nickel, copper and cobalt of commercial value. The State has followed early research, exploration and pilot mining activities of various companies and late in 1976 began a project to determine the economic feasibility and the socio-economic and environmental impacts of establishing a manganese nodule industry in Hawaii. The project will address the concerns of the people of Hawaii in these impact areas and will recommend a course of action.
