Abstract
Cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas which are fed by a narrow slot in the ground plane of a microstrip line are investigated. The resonance frequencies for various resonators are determined experimentally and predicted numerically. Coupling to the HEM11δ mode which leads to broadside radiation is examined, and the anticipated radiation characteristics are verified both theoretically and experimentally. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained. The results presented demonstrate the viability of this type of new antenna which is suitable for MIC applications
