Abstract
A new method is presented which applies the multi-step amplitude quantization method to control the sidelobe level of a planar rectangular array antenna. The different sidelobe level requirement in azimuthal and elevational planes are achieved. In other areas, the sidelobe level can also be controlled. This method take the advantage of that proposed by Zheng and Guo (1991), Guo and Xue (1986, 1989) and Xue (see Proc. of EM science conf., p.231, 1992). The amplitude distribution is chosen according to probability theory. In the determination of the amplitude steps, the optimizing method is used to minimize the pattern variance and the calculation of simultaneous integrated equations is avoided
