Abstract :
Scattering of electromagnetic waves by underground objects has received much attention in recent years. Sensing techniques have been developed to locate and identify various target objects such as cables, gas and water pipes, and ancient tombs for archaeological evidence under the ground. However, detection of buried objects is difficult, since the EM wave which propagates through the underground is scattered by objects, such as air gaps and rocks. In this paper, the complication of radar response is related to the randomness of media and surfaces statistically, using the root mean square value, correlation coefficient, etc. The wavelet transform of the radar response is effective in emphasizing the reflection from an air gap, at particular scales
