Abstract
Pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled induction motors are examined from the consumer´s point of view. The inverter and induction motor are considered to form a complete unit to control the speed of a load. The analysis presented has shown that the circuit parameters of the similar motors could be highly decisive on system efficiency at any operating point. The effect was evaluated by introducing the reduction of pole numbers of the motor driving the load. The results have shown the necessity that the motor to be used in conjunction with the inverter should be selected properly amongst the alternative ones.<>
